Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
