Wilfried Nancy stated he was not afraid of dismissal, maintaining, “The team is really close to changing our fortunes,” in the wake of edging perilously close to the chopping block with a convincing setback against Rangers.

A Second-Half Capitulation Sees Old Firm Loss

The home side were in front Rangers at half-time but a second-half capitulation enabled Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was appointed from Columbus Crew, has now presided over six losses in his first eight fixtures.

“There is unity at the club,” stated the manager.

Asked directly about his own future, Nancy responded: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on discovering solutions to get the team to excel on the fine details.

Fan Fury On Display

Celtic’s support displayed their anger – towards the board and manager – by gathering at Parkhead. The board are reportedly likely to bring back the interim manager, who steered the club during a caretaker period previously, if Nancy departs.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. However in stating that’s how it is, it doesn’t mean that I am pessimistic. Absolutely not. The message is we are really close, extremely close to change the narrative.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy highlights the fact his team can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. Indeed, if not for missed chances they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I must remain fair.

“The level we had at stages was of top quality. That is a fact. I could not say that if it was different. Therefore, in terms of results, I noted it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I believe we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: small things.”

“I saw many, many good things that we did, as was the case today. However is performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would not be if I didn't believe it. That’s why I am convinced we’re going to be able to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Stance

Danny Röhl refused to contemplate a serious challenge even after what seemed like a huge result. “Step by step, then we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the group is immense.”
