Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, placing him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
