Fans Call for Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
