Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
