The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
