Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
Jones landed on the foot of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the ground clutching his knee.
The veteran player, who is leading the NBA season in boards and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the game before sustaining the problem.
He will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.
"Immediately, he understood he was hurt," said Denver coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who is injured, that's tough to see, especially a player as talented as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, currently, I am focused just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing a situation like that."
